In august 2010 one of the major road connections between Germany and the Netherlands, the motorway A1, was flooded due a breach in a dike of a local river. The entire motorway was flooded and all transport was stopped entirely. The BoxBarrier50 could have avoided delays and reduced the resulting financial damage, when it would have been installed directly after the breach. BoxBarrier50 can be installed in flowing water conditions and when it is operational the remaining water can be pumped away from the motorway.
